If you're chasing a classification or a podium, it goes as deep as you want — per-drill times, classifier progress, match breakdowns. The idea is the same at every level: do a little better than last time, and be able to see it instead of guessing.

Not at all. Plenty of shooters never shoot a match and still want to know they're getting better. You can keep it as a personal practice journal and nothing more — your sessions, your drills, your gear, your progress — whether or not competition is ever in the picture.

Add a gun, set a goal or two, then log one session — the guns you shot, the drills you ran, how it felt. That's the whole loop. Come back the morning after and you'll see that session, and your goals, looking back at you. The whole thing takes a couple of minutes.

Yes. From the Setup screen you can load a ready-made sample log — sessions, drills, matches, costs, and photos already filled in — so you can tap around a fully “lived-in” log before entering anything of your own. When you're ready for your own data, open Setup again (under Tour & Setup) and tap “Start my own log” in the banner that sits at the top while the sample is loaded — that clears the sample so you can begin with your first real session.

Pick the gun or guns you shot, add your drills with their times and scores, jot any malfunctions or notes, and save. On a normal range day it's a minute or two — it's built for thumbs at the range, not a desk. And you can edit anything later, so you're never stuck if you forget something in the moment.

Yes. You can log classifiers and matches and see your classification progress — where you stand now and what it takes to reach the next class. The competition side is built for action-pistol shooters who care about the numbers behind the result, not just the result.

Yes — paste in a PractiScore match export and the stages come across, so you're not hand-typing every one. USPSA classifier exports come in the same way.

Yes, and this is really about taking care of the gear you already own. You get a running round count per firearm, and maintenance tracked against a schedule — so you know a gun is due before it tells you the hard way at a match. Already have thousands of rounds through a gun? When you add it, just enter that number as its starting round count, and the app counts up from there. You can use a manufacturer's recommended schedule or set your own per gun.

Yes — think of it as a budget and inventory for what you're already spending and shooting. It tracks ammo you've bought and used, range fees, and match fees, and rolls it up into things like cost per round and cost per match. Each fee lives in exactly one place, so nothing gets double-counted. It's there to show you where your training dollars are going — not to tell you what to buy.

Right now, yes — it's free while I'm still building it, and there are no ads. The calculators and guides on this site stay free no matter what. The app won't always be free: when I set a price it'll be a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Dry-fire logging, match logging, and looking at or exporting everything you've already logged all stay free forever.

Nothing happens to it. Your logbook lives on your device, not on a server, and that has never depended on payment. You can still look at everything you've logged and export the whole thing, free, and you can still log dry-fire and matches. Nothing is deleted, locked, or held back.

No. There's no sign-up, no account, no password. You just open it and start using it. Your data isn't tied to a login because it isn't on a server in the first place — it's on your device.

Always. Everything is editable after the fact — open any session and change it. And if you delete something by accident, it goes to a “Recently Deleted” area where you can restore it, so a stray tap doesn't cost you your work.

Your log lives on your own device, full stop. There are no servers holding it, no ads, and your information is never sold or shared. Today the app collects nothing at all. Two things are coming, and you should hear them here first. To power “how do I compare?” benchmarks, an update will send anonymous, aggregate numbers worked out on your device — never your log, never anything that identifies you — and those stay off unless you switch them on, so you see the community's numbers when you contribute your own. Separately, anonymous usage and crash reports — which screens get used, what breaks — arrive switched on, with one switch to turn them off; in the EU and EEA the app asks first. From the same notes you're already taking, you see a trend, your round totals, and a warning when maintenance on a gun is due — and you can tap any number to jump straight to the session behind it. Bringing history over depends on what you have: match results come across from a PractiScore export, and classifier scores from a USPSA export. A general spreadsheet importer isn't built yet. If your history lives in a notebook or your own spreadsheet, the usual move is to type in the handful of sessions that still matter and start clean from today — the trend you care about is the one that starts now.

Yes — it runs on your phone and your desktop, and it's the same log on both. Because there's no cloud account, syncing is a simple one-tap “push” from one device and “pull” on the other, moving a single data file through your own iCloud Drive / Files. You stay in control of it, and it tells you in plain language if one side is newer.

It runs on iPhone, Android, and desktop as a web app — you add it to your home screen and it behaves like a regular app (more on that below). It is still being built, so what you open today is an early version. Dedicated App Store and Play Store versions are planned.

It's quick, and it's worth doing — once it's on your home screen it opens like any app and works offline.

On iPhone (Safari): open the site, tap the Share button (the square with the up-arrow at the bottom), scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add. You'll get a FirearmLog icon on your home screen.

On Android (Chrome): open the site, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, tap Add to Home screen (or Install app), then confirm.

That's it — tap the new icon and you're in, no app store required.

Yes. Once you've added it to your home screen, FirearmLog works offline — it doesn't need a connection to log a session. That matters, because plenty of ranges sit in a dead zone. Log everything at the bay, and it's all just there; syncing to your other device happens later, on your terms, when you're back on a connection.

Your log lives on your device, so the way you protect it is the same one-file backup you use to sync: push a copy to your iCloud Drive / Files. With a backup saved, moving to a new phone is just pulling that file back in. The app also nudges you to back up when you've piled up changes, so you don't have to remember.

More than pistol. You can organize pistols, rifles, shotguns, PCCs, revolvers, and more, each with its own details, round count, and maintenance. Drills are smart about it too — working a pistol dry only shows you pistol, dry-fire drills — so the log stays relevant to whatever you're actually running that day.

Yes, on a class. Log a session as a class and it carries an Instructor field — type a name or pick one you have used before, and you can search on it afterwards. Months later, when your draw finally clicks, you can look back and see whose class it built on. Good coaching shortcuts the curve; remembering where it came from is part of the picture.
